The United States Coast Guard is soliciting bids for the flush of the main reduction gear on a ship. The purpose of the flush is to remove foreign material contamination, carbon deposit residue, and other contaminants from the gear and its components. The contractor will be required to provide a suitable 450 VAC power source, as the cutter and cutter support base are not capable of providing the necessary power. The contractor will also be required to manually rotate the reduction gear during flushing and to use an in-line particle counter or oil sampling method to monitor the progress of the flushing.
