Description:
The United States Coast Guard is soliciting bids for the flush of the main reduction gear on a ship. The purpose of the flush is to remove foreign material contamination, carbon deposit residue, and other contaminants from the gear and its components. The contractor will be required to provide a suitable 450 VAC power source, as the cutter and cutter support base are not capable of providing the necessary power. The contractor will also be required to manually rotate the reduction gear during flushing and to use an in-line particle counter or oil sampling method to monitor the progress of the flushing. The contractor will need to provide documentation of their experience with similar work and will need to identify any components that need to be removed or jumpered for the flush. • The flush will be performed at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, MD. • The contractor will need to provide a flushing rig with a flow rate of up to 120 GPM and a relief valve to ensure maximum system pressure is not exceeded. • The contractor will need to use a flushing fluid that meets the requirements of AW45. • The contractor will need to refill the system with USCG-furnished lube oil after the flush is complete. • The contractor will need to provide a final inspection report after the flush is complete.
