SUMMARY - An employee in this position uses manual labor to perform unskilled tasks of a physically demanding nature in an assigned area of responsibility. Assigned areas can include collection of household and commercial refuse and recycling as well as construction, maintenance and repair activities of roadways and related structures; installation and maintenance of traffic controls; planting, pruning, and maintaining trees and landscaping. The work is performed under close and direct supervision. An individual hired as a Laborer I will be non-competitively promoted to Laborer II upon completing six months of satisfactory City service in the position, in accordance with the City’s policy on Promotions and Transfers.
