Description:
The New York State Department of Law is seeking a nonprofit organization to provide technical assistance to Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) cooperatives in New York City. The selected organization will receive a grant of up to $750,000 to provide targeted technical assistance to help HDFC co-ops stabilize and address financial and physical distress. The technical assistance will include connecting co-ops with sources of funds for repairs, resolving municipal arrears, addressing operational needs, obtaining legal assistance, and implementing effective governance structures. • The grant will be awarded for a period of 24 months, starting from August 1, 2025. • The selected organization will work closely with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) to identify eligible HDFC co-op properties for engagement. • The organization will provide technical assistance to help HDFC co-ops address governance problems, limited board and shareholder engagement, vacant units in need of repair, and complex probate issues. • The grant is funded by settlement funds awarded to New York under the JP Morgan Chase Settlement and National Mortgage Settlement.
