Description:
• Grant program offered by Kansas Office of Rural Prosperity (ORP) to fund creation of murals and public art in rural communities
• Eligible communities must have population of 15,000 or less
• Projects must be ready to begin immediately with:
- Community engagement completed
- Location selected and approved
- Muralist selected
• Project must incorporate community's:
- History
- Culture
- Heritage
- Tourism elements
- Or other community-led art concepts
• Previous program funded 37 rural murals across 14 Kansas communities in 2022
• Kansas Arts Commission (KAC) is a partner and maintains roster of 21 qualified mural artists
• Applications are currently open through the Kansas Department of Commerce submission portal
• Program aims to beautify public spaces and create new tourist attractions in rural areas
