Description:
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, Public Safety Department – Animal Care and Control Division, is seeking proposals for after-hours emergency veterinary services for injured, ill, and potentially abused animals. The selected proposer will be required to provide emergency veterinary care, triage, and stabilization of animals brought to their facility by Animal Care Officers (ACOs) or designees. The proposer must have a minimum of two years of experience providing after-hours emergency veterinary care to companion animals and must be licensed by the Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine. The contract will be for a three-year period with the option for two one-year renewals. Key responsibilities include providing initial assessment, stabilization, and analgesia for patients, as well as maintaining complete animal treatment records on site. The proposer will also be required to participate in further evaluation conducted by the Animal Care and Control Division if warranted. Some key points to consider: • The anticipated number of animals to be served is 250-400 animals annually. • The proposer must be available to accept and hold animal patients for up to 12 hours until transport back to the Animal Care and Control Division can be completed. • The proposer must maintain complete animal treatment records on site, as required by law. • Hard copies of the treatment records shall accompany each animal upon return to the Animal Care and Control Division. • The proposer will provide specific metrics to the Animal Care and Control Division on a regular basis, including specific medical treatments done and specific findings on alleged cruelty and abuse cases.

Budget Estimate (AI):

$750,000 – $1,200,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated in the document. However, considering the scope of work, which includes providing after-hours emergency veterinary services for 250-400 animals annually, and the contract duration of three years with the option for two one-year renewals, a rough estimate can be made. Assuming an average cost per animal of $500 (which includes initial assessment, stabilization, and analgesia), the total annual cost would be $125,000 to $200,000. For a three-year contract, this would translate to $375,000 to $600,000. Adding the option for two one-year renewals, the total potential budget could range from $750,000 to $1,200,000. This is a very rough estimate and the actual budget could be higher or lower depending on various factors, including the level of care required and the proposer's pricing.
