Description:
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking information on the photonic integrated circuit (PIC) needs of quantum technology companies. The goal is to identify potential opportunities for investment in broadly-applicable foundry platforms to provide an accessible domestic resource for end users of quantum-tailored PICs. Key areas of interest include the development of PICs that can integrate with quantum emitters, such as neutral atoms, trapped ions, and color centers. Respondents are asked to provide information on their current or future quantum emitter systems, including descriptions of the system, its intended application, and the benefits provided by PICs. They are also requested to submit a high-level schematic of the system and a comprehensive set of functional and physical requirements for PIC devices. • The RFI is open to all capable sources, including private or public companies, individuals, universities, and U.S. Government-sponsored labs. • Responses must be submitted as an unprotected Microsoft Word document or PDF file. • The submission deadline is September 22, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). • Classified responses should be coordinated with DARPA prior to submission. • Proprietary information should be clearly labeled as "Proprietary."

Budget Estimate (AI):

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a request for information rather than a solicitation for proposals. However, considering the goal of identifying potential opportunities for investment in foundry platforms, the budget could be substantial if a company's response leads to a future contract or partnership with DARPA. The estimated budget range could be between $500,000 and $5,000,000, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the level of innovation and uniqueness of the respondent's technology, the potential impact on the quantum technology industry, and the ability of the respondent to demonstrate a clear understanding of the requirements and challenges associated with developing PICs for quantum emitters.
