Description:
The USDA Forest Service is seeking a contractor to plant approximately 509 acres with container stock at 134 trees per acre in the Pike National Forest. The project will pay on a per acre basis, and the contractor will be responsible for furnishing all labor, equipment, supervision, and supplies necessary to perform the work. The planting will be accomplished using a minimum 8' x 8' spacing from other planted seedlings and natural regeneration, with large variability. The contractor will also be required to provide shade for the seedlings using logs, stumps, or other materials. Key aspects of the job include: • Planting approximately 67,000 seedlings, with 85% being ponderosa pine and 15% being Douglas fir • Using container stock with 1-0 plugs • Planting in shaded microsites using logs and standing dead for shade • Providing all labor, equipment, and supplies necessary for the project • Ensuring that all trees are planted in good soil that is deep enough to accommodate the fully extended seedling roots • Protecting seedlings from heat and moisture stress, as well as damage from animals and weather conditions
