Description:
The Cellular and Biochemical Engineering program supports fundamental engineering research that advances understanding of cellular and biomolecular processes in engineering biology. This program encourages highly innovative and potentially transformative engineering research leading to novel bioprocessing and biomanufacturing approaches. Some key areas of interest include metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, quantitative systems biotechnology, cell culture technologies, protein and enzyme engineering, and single cell dynamics. Proposals should address the novelty and potential impact of the proposed work, as well as its importance in terms of engineering science and potential impact on society and industry. • Metabolic engineering and synthetic biology for biomanufacturing • Quantitative systems biotechnology • Cell culture technologies • Protein and enzyme engineering • Single cell dynamics and modeling in the context of biomanufacturing

Budget Estimate (AI):

$100,000 – $600,000

The estimated funding for this program is $8,200,000, with a typical award size of $100,000 per year, and up to $200,000 per year for collaborative projects. This suggests that the budget for a single award could be in the range of $100,000 to $600,000 over a period of 1 to 3 years, depending on the scope and collaboration of the project. Factors that may influence the budget include the complexity of the research, the number of collaborators, and the potential impact of the project on biomanufacturing and biomolecular processes.
