The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking a high-intensity approach lighting system with sequenced flashing lights (ALSF-2) that uses light emitting diode (LED) steady burning light assemblies. The system must meet specific performance and verification requirements, including physical and optical requirements, and must be able to operate in various environmental conditions. The LED light assemblies must be able to produce five brightness levels and must be addressable by either hardware or software means. The system must also be able to withstand various mechanical and environmental stresses, including ice, wind, and vibration. Some key features of the system include: • Elevated and semi-flush LED light assemblies that are direct replacements for incandescent lamps • Programmable heating elements to dissipate ice off the face of the lens • Aiming devices that allow for field aiming of the light beam without the need for tools • Optical assemblies that meet specific photometric intensity and chromaticity requirements • The ability to operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 55°C • The ability to withstand various mechanical stresses, including static, dynamic, shear, and torque loads The scope of work for this project includes the design, development, and testing of the LED light assemblies, as well as the integration of the system with the existing ALSF-2 system. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring that the system meets all of the specified requirements and for providing documentation and testing to support the system's performance.
