Description:
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking information on the feasibility, manufacturability, and application space of Very Large-scale Photonic Integration (VLPI). The agency is interested in disruptive ideas and concepts that can significantly advance the field of photonic integration. The request for information (RFI) is focused on two areas: the applications that can be uniquely enabled by VLPI photonic circuits and the current limitations and new approaches in design automation for VLPI photonic circuit design. Some key aspects of this opportunity include: • The development of photonic integrated circuits with millions of components • The establishment of a fabless design ecosystem for photonic circuits • The exploration of new applications for VLPI photonic circuits • The advancement of photonic circuit design automation and simulation capabilities • The development of novel photonic design algorithms and automation methodologies

Budget Estimate (AI):

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a request for information (RFI) rather than a solicitation for proposals. However, based on the scope of the project and the potential applications of VLPI photonic circuits, it is possible that the budget could be substantial. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the project, the number of respondents, and the potential impact of the technology on the defense industry. A rough estimate for the budget could be in the range of $500,000 to $5 million, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. However, this is highly speculative, and the actual budget could be significantly higher or lower.
