The Material-Plasma Exposure eXperiment (MPEX) device is being constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to address the harsh conditions inside a fusion reactor. This device will have the unique feature of being able to conduct accelerated lifetime tests of plasma-facing components. The MPEX Vacuum system utilizes 4 edge welded bellows to allow for expansion and contraction of the vacuum envelope. The bellows are uniquely designed to mount to a water-cooled body to prevent overheating and prevent line-of-sight exposure to plasma.
