Description:
The Autonomous Interventions and Robotics (AIR) program aims to catalyze the development of autonomous robotic surgery. The program has two technical areas: Technical Area 1 (TA1) for endovascular robotics and Technical Area 2 (TA2) for microbots. TA1 consists of two sub-areas: TA1-A for endovascular robotic systems and TA1-B for the development of an in silico simulation environment. The program seeks to make endovascular procedures available at hospitals everywhere through autonomous robotic systems. Some key aspects of the program include: * Developing fully autonomous robotic endovascular intervention systems * Creating an in silico testing and validation environment for these robots * Developing microbots that can move, sense, and act to diagnose or treat conditions * Demonstrating real-time uncertainty quantification and fail-safe mechanisms * Achieving regulatory approval for the developed systems The program will consist of an initial two-year Phase 1 and a three-year Phase 2, with a total duration of five years.
