Description:
The Chain Reaction Innovations program is a United States Department of Energy (DOE) entrepreneurship program that supports and mentors entrepreneurial researchers whose early-stage innovations are too challenging or technically uncertain to pursue in a venture capital-financed startup. The program provides selected innovators with scientific/technical mentorship and access to unique R&D assets and scientific expertise at Argonne National Laboratory. The program aims to accelerate the applied research, development, and deployment of physical science-based technologies capable of transforming the nation’s energy systems. • The program is open to individual applicants, not companies or organizations. • Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of technology R&D experience and be either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident. • The program provides funding for up to 24 months, including a personal stipend, travel allowance, and health benefits through an ORISE fellowship. • Selected innovators will contract with Argonne National Laboratory through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA). • The program has a two-phase approach, with a Scope and Planning Phase followed by a Research and Development (R&D) phase.

Budget Estimate (AI):

$400,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated, but based on the program's description, it can be estimated that the funding for each innovator could range from $200,000 to $500,000 per year, considering the provision of a personal stipend, travel allowance, and health benefits through an ORISE fellowship, as well as access to R&D assets and scientific expertise at Argonne National Laboratory. The total funding for the 24-month program could be in the range of $400,000 to $1,000,000. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the number of innovators selected, the scope of their projects, and the availability of funds.
