Description:
Longwood University is seeking a qualified mechanical/electrical contractor to remove the existing water‑cooled chiller and associated pumps, replace them with new equipment, upgrade chilled‑water piping, install a new refrigerant monitoring system, and provide the necessary power and controls. The scope also includes two optional additive items for redundant pumps and future central‑chiller plant tie‑ins. Bids are sealed, with a 5 % bid bond, and the contract will be awarded to the lowest responsive bidder. • Remove existing chiller, primary/secondary pumps, related piping, expansion tank, flow meters, and refrigerant monitoring hardware. • Install a new packaged water‑cooled chiller, new primary and secondary pumps (plus backup pumps), new chilled‑water piping, flow meters, expansion tank, and a refrigerant detection system integrated with the building automation system. • Provide electrical power, controls integration, testing, adjusting, balancing, and commissioning; optional items include redundant pump package and future central‑plant piping/valves. • Compliance with Virginia contractor licensing, eVA registration, SWaM policy, OSHA/VDLI safety standards, and university site‑specific requirements (parking passes, ID cards, fencing, etc.).

Budget Estimate (AI):

$800,000 – $1,500,000

No contract ceiling is disclosed. Comparable chiller replacement projects at midsize universities typically range from $800,000 to $1,500,000 depending on equipment size, site constraints, and optional additive items. Assuming a mid‑range packaged chiller (~$600k) plus pumps, piping, controls, labor, and contingency, a reasonable estimate is $800k‑$1.5M.
