The Illinois Natural Areas Stewardship Grant Program aims to increase stewardship on dedicated Illinois Nature Preserves and registered Land and Water Reserves through grants to Conservation Land Trusts. Eligible recipients are Conservation Land Trusts performing stewardship activities on eligible land, which includes land protected by the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission. The program provides funding for stewardship activities such as control of exotic and invasive species, prescribed burns, and restoration/enhancement of native plant communities. • Eligible projects include stewardship of land or water for maintaining, preserving, or improving native natural communities, diversity of species, and ecological processes. • Eligible costs may include contractual services, staff time related to the project, equipment and materials necessary to complete stewardship projects. • The grant program has a maximum funding of $100,000 per project and a minimum of $20,000. • The grant term will be no more than two years and will be paid on a reimbursement basis.
