Description:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is planning to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for research focused on the discovery and development of small molecule and biologic non-addictive analgesic therapeutics to treat pain. This study is part of the NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative. The scope of this program spans early optimization through Phase I development activities. Key aspects of the job include: * Discovery and development of non-addictive analgesic therapeutics * Focus on small molecules and biologics * Collaboration with NIH-funded consultants and contract research organizations (CROs) * Milestone-driven, phased, cooperative agreement program * Exclusion of basic research, therapeutic device development, and clinical studies beyond Phase I studies

Budget Estimate (AI):

$500,000 – $10,000,000

The budget for this grant is difficult to estimate, but based on the scope of the project and the fact that it is a cooperative agreement program, it is likely that the award amount will be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million per year for a period of 2-5 years. The total budget could be around $1 million to $10 million. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the number of projects funded, the complexity of the research, and the duration of the grant period.
