Description:
The State University of New York at Stony Brook is seeking an experienced research or commercial vessel capable of conducting a Nearshore Trawl Survey for the 2025 calendar year. The survey consists of 2 stations selected randomly in fifteen depth strata for a total of 30 stations located on the South Shore of Long Island, NY. The vessel will need to be able to tow a net and doors for survey consistency and have ample freezer space for biological samples. The vessel should have a Simrad trawl monitoring system hydrophone mounted in the haul capable of communicating with Simrad PX Mk2 Multisensors. • The vessel should be in the range of 80 ft. • The vessel should have onboard bunk space for a minimum of 4 science crew. • The vessel should have a live well set up per endangered species permit requirements. • The survey will require the vessel to tow a 20 minute tow at 3 knots to sample 1 nautical mile of seafloor. • The catch will be sorted by species and weighed via deck scale, with a subsample of 30 individuals per species taken for length measurements.
