Description:
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking innovative research concepts for the Methodological Advancements for Generalizable Insights into Complex Systems (MAGICS) program. The goal of the program is to develop new methods and paradigms for modeling collective human behavior, capable of overcoming the limits of statistical approaches to accurately predict complex social phenomena. The program aims to address the challenges of understanding human behavior in complex, dynamic, and evolving systems. Some key areas of interest include: • Data inference boundaries and limitations • Alignment validation limitations • Adaptation limitations and model obsolescence • Psychosocial domain limitations • Complex phenomena Proposers are expected to submit abstracts that clearly articulate an approach to design a systematic method for identifying the limits or boundaries of inference from data sources in understanding social systems and the psychological domain. The abstracts should also provide a substantial technical argument that the proposed approach has the potential to significantly advance the current state-of-the-art in modeling human behavior in complex, dynamic systems.

Budget Estimate (AI):

$100,000 – $300,000

The budget for this opportunity is estimated to be between $100,000 and $300,000, including direct and indirect costs, as well as graduate student tuition if applicable. This estimate is based on the information provided in the document, which states that the maximum period of performance is 12 months and the aggregate level of effort for a proposed research concept is expected to be equivalent to one full-time equivalent (FTE) and 12 months. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the research concept, the qualifications and experience of the proposer, and the availability of funding for the program.
