Description:
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is soliciting proposals for the Growing Convergence Research (GCR) program, which aims to support multidisciplinary teams in developing innovative solutions to complex research problems. The program targets convergence research, which integrates knowledge, methods, and expertise from different disciplines to develop novel paradigms that catalyze scientific discovery and innovation. Proposers must outline a five-year research plan, with a total budget for Phase I not exceeding $1,200,000 and for Phase II not exceeding $2,400,000. Successful proposals will be funded initially for two years, with the possibility of additional funding for up to three years pending availability of funds. Key areas of focus include: • Research driven by a specific and compelling problem • Deep integration across disciplines • Development of novel paradigms and innovative scientific approaches • Establishment of new scientific communities or development of transformative technologies • Exploration of novel avenues not previously investigated Proposers must make a convincing case that the research to be conducted is within NSF's purview, integrates across NSF directorate or division boundaries, and is currently not supported by other NSF programs or solicitations.

$1,200,000 – $3,600,000

Based on the estimated funding amount of $16,000,000 and the award ceiling of $3,600,000, it is likely that the budget for this opportunity will be in the range of $1,200,000 to $3,600,000. The actual budget will depend on the number of awards made and the specific proposals submitted. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the number of proposals submitted, the quality of the proposals, and the availability of funds.
