Electrical Distribution System (EDS) Substations and Switchgear Upgrade

One-Two SentencesThis project serves to enhance the University'sresponse to unplanned electrical distribution outagesamongst the three substations that supply UNC's campus.The three substations serving the campus are CameronAvenue, Manning, and South. The planned upgrades willallow the University to restore power more quickly andimprove the resiliency across campus.This project will require creating approximately 2,500linear feet of new duct bank and primary cablingarrangements totaling approximately 16,500 linear feet,along with switchgear and smart protective relays thatcommunicate with the Electrical Distribution Systems SCADAsystem.A secondary goal of this project is to replace two GeneralElectric 15 kV Powervac Vacuum Switchgears with two ArcFlash Resistant, 15 kV, 3000 Amp continuous, and 40 kAinterrupting rating Switchgears located at the CameronSubstation. These replacement switchgears shall maintainhardwiring controls integration with the CogenerationSystems Plant and communication controls interface with theElectrical Distribution Systems SCADA system.
