ONR FY27 NOFO for Young Investigator Program

The Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program seeks proposals addressing research areas of interest to ONR Program Officers. The program aims to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment, who have received their PhD or equivalent degree on or after 01 January 2019, and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty members of U.S. Institutions of Higher Education to the Department of the Navy's Science and Technology research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. Some of the research areas of interest include Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy, Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) and Naval Space, Directed Energy and Kinetic Systems, and Materials and Electronics. • The program provides funding for research proposals that address basic or applied research areas of interest to ONR. • The program encourages applicants to contact the appropriate Program Officer to discuss their research ideas before submitting a proposal. • The program requires applicants to submit a research proposal and at least one Letter of Support through the appropriate university officials. • The program has a highly competitive selection process, with typically 10 percent or less of applicants receiving awards. • The program provides funding for a period of 36 months, with a total award value of up to $750,000.
