WaterSMART: Applied Science Grants

The WaterSMART Applied Science Grants (ASG) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to invite eligible entities to apply for funding to improve access to and use of hydrologic data, develop and improve water management tools, and improve hydrologic modeling and forecasting capabilities. The goal is to support water managers in increasing water supply reliability, providing flexibility in water operations, and enhancing water supply forecasts. Eligible projects include developing modeling and forecasting tools, hydrologic data platforms, and new data sets. The program expects to make $6M available, with individual award amounts ranging from $0 to $400,000. • Eligible applicants include States, Indian tribes, irrigation districts, water districts, and other organizations with water or power delivery authority. • Cost sharing is required, with applicants expected to contribute at least 50% of the total project cost. • The program has two application submittal periods, with submission deadlines of July 8, 2026, and April 13, 2027.
