DOT&PF Notice of Geotechnical Investigation: Ketchikan Tongass Avenue & Water Street Viaducts

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to rehabilitate and make improvements to the Tongass Avenue and Water Street Viaduct structures and the South Tongass Highway Tunnel in Ketchikan, Alaska. The project includes a geotechnical investigation to provide geologic and geotechnical information to support the design of embankment fill. The investigation will include borings, cores, and night work. The project team has coordinated with the City of Ketchikan to obtain a Noise Ordinance Permit. Key aspects of the project include: • Geotechnical investigation to support design of embankment fill • Borings and cores to characterize subsurface materials and investigate voids and asphalt thickness • Night work with tentative hours of 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM • Coordination with the City of Ketchikan to obtain a Noise Ordinance Permit • The project is located in Ketchikan, Alaska, and will have no impact on lanes and sidewalks during the day and non-work hours.
