The Rockingham County Registry of Deeds is seeking proposals for the restoration of historical books. The project involves the treatment and stabilization of 25 historical books, including examination, dismantling, deacidification, repair, and encapsulation. The successful vendor will be required to provide an itemized price proposal and attend a mandatory site visit. The contract will be awarded to the vendor who submits the most competitive proposal. • The scope of work includes treating and stabilizing historical books numbers 432 through 456. • Volumes are to be examined prior to treatment and control numbered as necessary. • Volumes are to be dismantled, removing all remnants of previous binding and adhesive. • Tears, cracks, voids, and other losses are to be mended with either Japanese tissue and archival adhesive, or LC archival tissue. • After deacidification and repair, volume pages are to be encapsulated in archival quality polyester film of 3 mil thickness, and sealed on three of four sides. • Capsules are to have a minimum 1” margin on the binding edge so that they may be converted to loose leaf format at a later time. • Indestructo binders for Historical Books number 407 through 431 are to be printed with identification information for Rockingham County Registry of Deeds.
