Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a proposal for the development and demonstration of a proof of concept for an Emergency Water Conveyance Prototype (EWCP) to protect the Mendenhall Valley in Juneau, Alaska from glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) events. The EWCP should prevent water levels in the Suicide Basin from rising above an elevation of 1,100 feet, NAVD88, while safely managing peak discharge rates of approximately 1,000 cubic feet per second (CFS). The project aims to prevent GLOF events, which have been documented annually since 2011 and have resulted in severe inundation and significant damage within the City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska.
