Description
The City of Laconia is seeking professional engineering services for the design of adjustable wave baffles at Endicott Rock Park (Weirs Beach) on Lake Winnipesaukee. The project aims to prevent further sand loss and stabilize the remaining beach while maintaining recreational use, public access, and visual aesthetics. The selected firm will provide professional engineering services, including design, engineering, and surveying, as well as permitting and regulatory support. The project involves designing and implementing a wave baffle system to mitigate erosion and sediment loss at Weirs Beach. Key considerations include:
• Reducing or eliminating ongoing sand migration from Weirs Beach
• Designing a low-profile wave baffle system that minimizes visual impacts and does not obstruct views from the beach
• Providing a movable and adjustable system that can be modified based on observed performance and is removable for winter storage
• Ensuring the baffles are designed to remain relatively low to the water surface
• Considering constructability, durability, and long-term maintenance requirements
The City of Laconia is looking for a firm with experience in similar shoreline stabilization, coastal, or wave attenuation projects. The successful proposal will demonstrate a clear understanding of the project goals, site conditions, and challenges at Weirs Beach, as well as the firm's approach and methodology for evaluating sand migration and designing an effective adjustable wave baffle system.
