Description
The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water is soliciting proposals for a qualified contractor to provide water investigation services at the Center Pit Lake, approximately 15 road miles east of Healy, Alaska. The contractor will be responsible for characterizing the physical, chemical, and hydrologic properties of the water contained within the Center Pit, evaluating groundwater recharge sources, rates, and pathways, and providing data and analysis necessary for designing a safe, effective pit dewatering strategy. The project includes tasks such as site assessment, water quality sampling, and hydrologic characterization. The contractor must have at least five years of experience providing hydrogeology and water quality investigation services and must have at least one Professional Geologist (PG).
• The project requires the contractor to coordinate with DNR to review site access, safety protocols, and logistical constraints.
• The contractor must identify equipment, personnel, and subcontractors required for field sampling, borehole drilling, and hydrologic measurements.
• The contractor must participate in a kickoff meeting with DNR.
• The contractor must conduct an initial site visit to evaluate access routes, pit geometry, and potential sampling locations.
• The contractor must map the pit water surface area and estimate current depth profile using sonar, drone-based photogrammetry, LiDAR, or other approved methods.
• The contractor must collect water samples from multiple depth intervals and representative locations across the pit.
• The contractor must analyze samples for parameters including metals, pH, alkalinity, TSS, conductivity, sulfate, chloride, major ions, and any additional constituents required by Alaska DEC or applicable regulations.
