Compensated Public Mural Project - French Market Plaza

The City of Wheaton is seeking a qualified artist to design and execute a permanent mural at the French Market Plaza in downtown Wheaton. The mural should reflect the city's character, history, and commitment to public art, and should work with the existing mural artwork and color palette. The selected artist will receive a negotiated artist fee, which will include costs related to materials, fabrication, equipment, installation, insurance, and other project-related expenses. The project is expected to be completed between April 7th and June 15th, 2026. • The mural will be located at the French Market Plaza in downtown Wheaton. • The mural size will vary from 5 feet to 6 feet high along the length of a 180-foot smooth concrete wall. • The theme of the mural will be a historical timeline of Wheaton from 1776 to 2026, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. • The artist will be responsible for the design and execution of the mural, including concept development, design, and project coordination. • The artist will be required to carry insurance acceptable to the City and provide a certificate of insurance with their submittal.
