Description

The Department of Energy (DOE) via Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a qualified vendor to supply, deliver, install, commission, test, document, and train on two metal laser powder‑bed fusion (L‑PBF) additive‑manufacturing systems – one medium‑scale dual‑laser unit and one large‑scale six‑laser tall‑build unit. The contractor must provide complete OEM software, safety‑certified hardware, full facility‑planning documentation, and perform both factory‑acceptance and site‑acceptance testing using Haynes 282 powder, with all required training for ORNL personnel. The effort includes design, manufacturing, testing, shipping, installation, calibration, and a comprehensive warranty and support package.

Budget estimate

$10,000,000 – $20,000,000

No contract value is disclosed, but comparable high‑power metal L‑PBF systems typically range from $5 M to $10 M each, plus services, training, and warranty. Considering two systems with full lifecycle support, a reasonable total contract value is estimated between $10 M and $20 M. Factors influencing the range include laser count, build volume, software licensing model, and the depth of installation and training services required.
