Description
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is inviting a single, pre‑qualified applicant (Research Foundation for the State University of New York) to develop a universal, rapid, cost‑effective method for detecting gunshot residue (GSR) using vibrational spectroscopy. The effort will fund basic scientific research and technology development aimed at producing a highly discriminating, accurate, and reliable forensic GSR detection technique that can be deployed in criminal‑justice laboratories. Funding is capped at $402,889 and the award will be made after the October 7, 2026 submission deadline.
• Target audience: Only the invited research foundation (eligible by invitation).
• Scope: R&D to create, validate, and demonstrate a vibrational‑spectroscopy‑based GSR detection method.
• Deliverables: Methodology, validation data, protocols, and possibly a prototype analytical tool.
• Funding: Up to $402,889 (grant).
