Rural Residency Planning and Development Program

The Rural Residency Planning and Development Program aims to improve and expand rural health care access by developing new, accredited, sustainable rural residency programs. The program provides start-up funding to create new rural residency programs in qualifying medical specialties, such as family medicine, internal medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. The program focuses on preparing physicians to practice in rural communities. • The program is open to domestic organizations, including faith-based organizations. • The estimated funding for this program is $11,250,000, with an award ceiling of $750,000. • The program aims to increase training and practice in rural areas to address physician shortages. • Long-term sustainability funding must come from viable and stable sources, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and other public or private sources.
