Description
The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking to license its solid state nuclear lasing sensors technology to commercial partners. This technology has the potential to revolutionize in-pile reactor measurements by providing real-time, accurate, and spatially resolved data on reactor power and flux. The benefits of this technology include enhanced accuracy, simplified design, and cost-effectiveness. Potential applications include commercial nuclear power plants, micro nuclear reactors, and space power and nuclear thermal propulsion reactors.
• The technology employs solid state lasing media/crystals excited by radiations within a reactor core to produce laser light.
• The intensity of the light directly correlates with reactor power and radiation flux.
• The instrument can determine both reactor power and energy spectrum using multiple lasing media doped with different fissile species.
• The technology has a development status of TRL 3, with analytical and experimental proof-of-concept for critical functions/characteristics.
