Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)

The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) aims to support the development of well-trained clinician-scientist leaders to address the nation's biomedical research needs. The program will support eligible domestic organizations to develop and implement effective, evidence-informed approaches to dual-degree training and mentoring. The program incorporates didactic, research, mentoring, and career development elements to prepare trainees for careers that will have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the nation. Key aspects of the program include: • Dual-degree training in a clinical degree (e.g., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S., Pharm.D.) and a research doctorate degree (Ph.D.) • Didactic, research, mentoring, and career development elements • Preparation for careers with a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the nation • Support for eligible domestic organizations to develop and implement effective approaches to training and mentoring.
