ULTRA-BROADBAND TERAHERTZ RADIO DEVELOPMENT

The Air Force Research Laboratory is soliciting white papers for research, development, integration, test, and evaluation of technologies to enable ultra-broadband communications in the terahertz band. The proposed system should include state-of-the-art modem design, fast flexible baseband, and the ability to accurately form and shape terahertz beams. Key performance parameters include transmission range, data rate, instantaneous RF bandwidth, beamwidth, and pointing accuracy. * Key performance parameters: * Transmission range: 200 m threshold, 2000 m objective * Data rate: 1 Mbps threshold, 1 Gbps objective * Instantaneous RF bandwidth: 5 GHz threshold, 10 GHz objective * Beamwidth: 5 degrees threshold, 3 degrees objective * Pointing accuracy: 10 percent threshold, 5 percent objective The Government encourages teaming between performers from multiple technical disciplines and collaboration with AFRL/RI researchers for system tests and demonstrations.
