Description
The US Air Force is seeking a Continuously Tunable Laser System, and intends to negotiate a sole-source award with Toptica Photonics, Inc. The system must meet specific requirements, including wavelength tuning, output power, optical isolation, scan speed, and absolute and relative wavelength accuracy. The system consists of several components, including a continuously tunable laser, fiber coupler units, a tapered amplifier, and optical isolators.
• The continuously tunable laser must have a wavelength tuning range of 1290-1370 nm or wider, with an output power of at least 13 mW from a single mode fiber.
• The fiber coupler units must have stable fiber couplers with X, Y, and Z degrees of freedom, and flexure-based alignment.
• The tapered amplifier must have a gain bandwidth of 1315 nm - 1357 nm or wider, with an output power of at least 200 mW over the gain bandwidth.
• The optical isolators must have an isolation of at least 30 dB per isolator, with a transmission of at least 85% per isolator.
