The Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Competitive Grants Program supports research, education, and extension projects in six priority areas: Plant Health and Production and Plant Products; Animal Health and Production and Animal Products; Food Safety, Nutrition, and Health; Bioenergy, Natural Resources, and Environment; Agriculture Systems and Technology; and Agriculture Economics and Rural Communities. The program aims to invest in agricultural production research, education, and extension projects for more sustainable, productive, and economically-viable plant and animal production systems. * The six priority areas are: * Plant Health and Production and Plant Products * Animal Health and Production and Animal Products * Food Safety, Nutrition, and Health * Bioenergy, Natural Resources, and Environment * Agriculture Systems and Technology * Agriculture Economics and Rural Communities * Eligible applicants include State Agricultural Experiment Stations, colleges and universities, university research foundations, other research institutions and organizations, Federal agencies, national laboratories, private organizations or corporations, and individuals who are U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents. * The program solicits various types of grants, including Standard Grants, Workshop Grants, and Food and Agricultural Science Enhancement (FASE) Grants. * Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov, and the deadline varies by program area priority.
