Description
• Program Type: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program set-aside for smaller jurisdictions
• Eligible Applicants: Arkansas local government units (cities and counties) that:
- Are ineligible for direct federal JAG funds due to small size ("less-than-$10,000 jurisdictions")
- Report Part 1 violent crimes to Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC)
- Are not receiving direct JAG federal awards
• Purpose: To improve criminal justice services through:
- Crime prevention initiatives
- Crime control and reduction programs
- Criminal law enforcement
- Police efforts to apprehend criminals
• Selection Process:
- Eligibility based on 3-year average of reported violent crimes using NIBRS
- Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) determines ineligible listing
- Eligible entities are notified by mail about funding availability and application process
• Legal Authority: Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, Title I, Subpart I of Part E (34 U.S.C. 10151-10158)
