Fiscal Year 2027 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP)

The Department of Defense (DoD) announces the Fiscal Year 2027 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP). The program is designed to improve the capabilities of accredited United States institutions of higher education to conduct research and to educate scientists and engineers in areas important to national defense, by providing funds for the acquisition of research equipment or instrumentation. The program will provide grants to universities to purchase equipment and instrumentation in support of research in areas of interest to the DoD. The program is open to accredited U.S. institutions of higher education with degree-granting programs in science, mathematics, and/or engineering, except for-profit educational institutions. • Eligible applicants: accredited U.S. institutions of higher education with degree-granting programs in science, mathematics, and/or engineering • Funding: approximately $28 million dollars pending appropriations, with typical funding per grant ranging from $50,000 to $3,000,000 • Key dates: application inquiries and questions due by October 16, 2026; applications must be received by November 6, 2026, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time • Award information: awards will be made in the form of grants, with the possibility of cooperative agreements for ARO submissions
