Description
The Nebraska DHHS has issued RFA R‑6251 to fund non‑embryonic stem‑cell research projects conducted by Nebraska‑based institutions. A total of $436,500 in state funds is available, with a maximum award of $110,000 per project for a 12‑month period (July 1 2026 – June 30 2027). Funding is provided as a dollar‑for‑dollar match to non‑state sources, and applicants must submit a detailed research plan, budget, and compliance attestations. Five projects were listed in an Intent‑to‑Award notice (two at Creighton University and three at the University of Nebraska Medical Center). The program prohibits use of human embryonic stem cells or creation of embryos, and it requires strict adherence to Uniform Grant Guidance and Nebraska statutes.
• Eligible entities: Nebraska universities, research centers, and their faculty (PhD/MD‑qualified).
• Scope: Scientific research on non‑embryonic stem cells, including molecular, cellular, and translational studies.
• Funding mechanics: Direct‑cost grant, match requirement, no indirect costs, and limited to personnel, supplies, equipment ≥ $10 k, travel for sample handling, and publication fees (max $2,500).
• Reporting: Mid‑year and final progress/financial reports; optional long‑term updates at 1, 5, 10 years.
