Description
The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking proposals for a long-term lease of real property located at the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant cleanup site in Western Kentucky. The site is being reindustrialized, and the goal of the project is to develop a road map for the future of the site. The project involves collaboration with community partners and stakeholders to define Paducah's needs and vision. Some of the key features of the site include its potential for AI and data center development, as well as its proximity to recreational areas such as the Shawnee National Forest and Land Between the Lakes.
• The site is one of four that DOE has engaged for locating an AI/Data Center.
• General Matter and Global Laser Enrichment have both announced plans to locate at the site.
• The Paducah Chamber has led the effort to increase funding for the cleanup at the DOE site, resulting in more than $150 million increase over the past four years.
• The site has access to a skilled workforce, with a growing population and a strong education corridor.
• The project involves a grant awarded in 2023 for a reindustrialization study, with an extension recently awarded by DOE for completion in 2026.
