The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is seeking a contractor to replace and upgrade the oil‑water separator (OWS) system for its Transportation Building in Providence. The scope includes removal of existing OWS units, disposal of contaminated sludge, excavation and construction of a new deep sump, installation of a 2,500‑gallon OWS with associated pumps, hoses, and controller, and protection of existing trench drains and bus‑wash facilities. RIPTA will perform pre‑construction cleaning of trench drains and the bus‑wash recycle tank, and will provide design dimensions and analytical data for sludge profiling. The contractor must manage on‑site soil stockpiling, de‑watering, and back‑fill, and may propose approved alternates (e.g., pre‑cast concrete vs. steel sump, alternate pump sizes, or pipe routing) subject to RIPTA approval. DBE participation is encouraged but not mandatory.
• Remove existing oil‑water separators, pump out and profile sludge for disposal.
• Construct a new 9‑ft‑deep, 5 ft‑4 in‑diameter sump and install a 2,500‑gal OWS with pumps, hoses, and controller.
• Provide site preparation, excavation, back‑fill, soil stockpiling, and de‑watering; protect existing trench drains and coordinate shutdown of the bus‑wash system.
• Offer approved alternatives (e.g., pre‑cast vs. steel sump, dual‑pump configuration, alternate pipe routing) with RIPTA consent.
