Description
The University of Iowa seeks qualified consulting firms to analyze and recommend a new financial structure for its medical‑malpractice liability program within UI Health Care. The contractor will evaluate current policies, Iowa tort and malpractice law, historical claim data, and the existing mutual insurer (Iowa Medical Mutual Insurance Company). Based on the analysis, the supplier must advise whether to (1) convert the mutual insurer to a captive insurance company, (2) dissolve the mutual and move to full self‑insurance up to state‑mandated thresholds, or (3) retain the current structure. The deliverable also includes a specialty‑specific malpractice risk index to support premium setting. The contract is initially one year with up to four one‑year extensions.
• Perform legal and financial assessment of UI Health Care’s malpractice program.
• Model three financing options (captive, full self‑insurance, status‑quo).
• Produce a risk‑index by medical/surgical specialty.
• Submit a detailed written proposal, fee schedule, and audited financial statements.
• Potentially present findings to a University committee.
