The West Virginia State Rail Authority (via the Purchasing Division) is seeking qualified contractors to replace approximately 4,000 railroad crossties and perform associated track surfacing on the South Branch Valley Railroad (SBVR) between mileposts 43.0 and 51.0. The work includes removal and disposal of existing ties, supply and installation of new Grade 5 hardwood ties (80% 7"x9", 20% 7"x8"), new spikes, tie plugs, re‑spiking to a 56½‑inch gauge, rail anchor re‑application, ballast regulation, and production tamping. Contractors must have completed at least five similar railroad track projects and must coordinate schedules with SBVR to avoid interference with daily freight and weekend excursion trains. All materials must meet AREMA specifications, and the contractor is responsible for permits, site access, final cleanup, and warranty documentation.
• Replace 4,000 crossties (Grade 5 hardwood, mixed oak/softwood)
• Provide and install new spikes, tie plugs, and rail anchors
• Perform track surfacing, ballast regulation, and production tamping (minimum 30‑day gap after tie installation)
• Coordinate with SBVR for train schedule interruptions (freight weekdays, excursion weekends)
• Remove and dispose of old ties, debris, and spikes; old spikes remain SRA property
• Must hold permits, follow AREMA standards, and submit warranty paperwork at final inspection.
