1890 Institution Teaching, Research, and Extension Capacity Building Grants Program

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is seeking grant applications from the 19 historically Black 1890 Land‑grant Universities to build capacity in teaching, research, and extension. Awards range from $50,000 to $750,000 and cover education, research, extension, or integrated projects, with a performance period of 12–36 months. Applicants may submit up to 16 standard/collaborative grants, three professional‑development grants, and one workshop grant per institution for FY 2026 (and similarly for FY 2027). Projects must address at least one of the program’s priority areas, which include AI/ML capacity, human health, rural development, bioenergy, soil health, youth development, and workforce development.
