Medical Director for Sarasota County Fire Department Emergency Medical Services

The County of Sarasota is seeking a qualified, Florida‑licensed physician (certified in Emergency Medicine) to serve as the Medical Director for the Sarasota County Fire Department’s EMS program. The contract will be for an initial five‑year term and includes oversight of protocols, training, quality‑improvement, collaboration with local agencies, and participation in grant and research initiatives. The Medical Director must be available 24/7 for online medical control, respond to major incidents, and lead a team of associate directors and medical staff. Compensation will be based on hourly rates and direct expense costs, with a total contract value expected to exceed $350,000. • Provide medical direction, protocol development, and oversight for all pre‑hospital EMS activities (ALS, BLS, hazardous materials, MIH). • Maintain 24/7 availability for online medical control and on‑scene response to major incidents. • Lead continuous quality‑improvement (CQI) program, audit patient care reports, and report to the Florida Bureau of EMS. • Develop and deliver training programs (BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.) and ensure credentialing of EMS personnel. • Collaborate with local fire/EMS agencies, technical colleges, hospitals, and state/national EMS organizations. • Participate in grant applications, research studies, and emergency preparedness planning. • Submit regular written reports to the Chief of EMS and attend required meetings and equipment reviews.
