Description

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is seeking bids for the GBNERR Mastication Project, which involves selectively masticating a 480-acre project area to reduce woody vegetation and promote herbaceous understory development. The project also includes creating 8,900 feet of firelanes. The contractor will be required to use low ground pressure heavy equipment and power tools, and to follow Best Management Practices (BMPs) to minimize impacts on wildlife. The contractor must have experience with selective thinning for habitat restoration, knowledge of local flora, and have completed at least one project within the past five years involving forestry mulching, mastication, land clearing, firelane construction, or similar vegetation management services. • The project area is located within the Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and Grand Bay Savanna Coastal Preserve boundaries in Jackson County, Mississippi. • The contractor will be required to provide regular updates on progress and notify the Project Manager and/or Natural Resource Manager of any issues that may arise. • The contractor must have the necessary equipment and personnel to perform the work, including low ground pressure heavy equipment and power tools. • The contractor must provide two professional references familiar with the vendor’s abilities described in the IFB. • The contractor must be electronically registered in Mississippi’s Accountability System for Government Information and Collaboration (MAGIC) before submitting their bid.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The budget for this project is estimated to be around $200,000 to $500,000, based on the scope of work and the requirements for the contractor. The project involves selectively masticating a 480-acre project area, creating 8,900 feet of firelanes, and following Best Management Practices (BMPs) to minimize impacts on wildlife. The contractor must have experience with selective thinning for habitat restoration, knowledge of local flora, and have completed at least one project within the past five years involving forestry mulching, mastication, land clearing, firelane construction, or similar vegetation management services. The estimated budget range is based on the assumption that the contractor will need to have the necessary equipment and personnel to perform the work, including low ground pressure heavy equipment and power tools.
