USAFA DFPM X-Band Microwave Resonator - Notice of Intent to Sole Source

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) intends to award a firm-fixed-price single source contract to Bruker Biospin Corp for the acquisition of an X-Band Microwave Resonator. The resonator must meet specific minimum salient characteristics, including being designed for EPR and ENDOR microwave spectroscopy, having an operating temperature range from room temperature to liquid He temperature, and being able to be used in a high vacuum chamber. The contract will be awarded using simplified acquisition procedures. Key characteristics of the X-Band Microwave Resonator include: • Specifically designed for EPR and ENDOR microwave spectroscopy • Specifically designed for pulsed microwave spectroscopy • Rf tuning from 100 kHz to 50 MHz • An opening for sample access to resonator center that is at least 4 mm in diameter • Resonant frequency when empty to be about 9.8 ± 0.5 GHz • Operating temperature range from room temperature down to liquid He temperature • Sample able to be changed at cryogenic temperatures • Optical access for laser beams, via sample rod • Ability to be used in a high vacuum chamber, mounted on the inside of a KF-50 vacuum flange • The distance from the flange to resonator center must be approximately 50 cm
