Historic Survey of Area Surrounding 1401 E. 12th Street in Des Moines, Iowa

The City of Des Moines is seeking a qualified consultant to prepare a survey of historically significant structures and districts in the vicinity of 1401 E. 12th Street in the Capital Park Neighborhood of Des Moines. The selected consultant will research, analyze, and compile an evaluation report including development patterns, property by property descriptions, and whether properties are contributing or non-contributing to a potential historic district(s). The evaluation report will be consistent with the Guidelines for Historic Architectural Survey in Iowa. • The project includes a Geographical Area of Study with approximately 100-125 parcels, the significant majority of which contain a structure built between 1890-1920. • The majority of properties within the Geographical Area of Study are privately owned and the City cannot guarantee access to the selected Consultant outside of the public right of way. • The selected Consultant will prepare all work products necessary to meet the objectives of this Project, including progress reports and tangible work products. • The Project is part of a larger City Project with activities happening between Fall 2026 and October 2027.
