Route 66 Grant Program

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is issuing a Notice of Funding Opportunity to award grants to certified convention and visitors bureaus for the development of tourism, education, preservation, and promotion of the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in 2026. The grant program is made possible by state funds, and the total amount of funding expected to be awarded is $209,327. Awards will range from $20,000 to $209,327. The program aims to enhance the Route 66 experience in Illinois by supporting projects that develop new or enhance existing attractions, improve wayfinding, and strengthen future tourism trends, including electrified transportation. • Eligible applicants include certified convention and visitors bureaus. • The application period is open until March 1, 2026, or until funds are exhausted. • Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and scored on criteria such as quality, capacity, and need. • The Department reserves the right to issue a reduced award or not to issue any award.
