Description

Shelby County Board of Education (SCBE) is seeking a vendor to supply fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables for its 2023‑2024 Summer School Feeding Program. The contract is fixed‑price, “all‑or‑none” award based on the lowest responsive approved‑brand cost per unit. Deliveries will occur twice weekly to multiple elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as a central kitchen, between 20 May 2024 and 29 Jul 2024. All produce must meet USDA nutrition standards, HACCP/GAP/GMP practices, and be “Buy‑American” unless a waiver is granted. Palletized shipments must follow strict weight and height limits, with a $600 lumping fee for non‑compliant loads. Vendor staff entering school sites must undergo fingerprint/background checks and obtain identification badges.

Budget estimate

$150,000 – $600,000

The IFB does not disclose a total contract value. Based on the line‑item quantities (several hundred to over a thousand cases per product) and typical market prices for bulk school‑nutrition produce ($15‑$45 per case depending on type), the total spend is likely in the low‑to‑mid six‑figure range. A conservative estimate would be $150,000‑$300,000, while a higher‑priced mix could approach $500,000‑$600,000. Factors influencing the final amount include the exact mix of fresh vs. frozen vs. canned items, any “Buy‑American” premium, and optional renewal for a second year.
